DRAIMAD® system is a practical alternative to belt presses or other mechanical devices when it is necessary to dewater small amounts of sludge. Thanks to the system, commonly known as bagging filters, sludge drying beds were eliminated in the 1990s, which was a form of technological revolution. The main feature of the system is the sludge dewatering process in special bags.
In DRAIMAD® modules, dewatering takes place in hydrophobic bags, which are a kind of mechanical filter. The hydrophobic nature of the bag material prevents the secondary ingress of rainwater into the bags while they are being dried in the open air. During operation of the device, the bags are filled with previously flocculated sludge. Additionally, the sludge in the bags can be compressed by air from a compressor to obtain the maximum water removal capacity. The filtrate is discharged to the sewage system, and the sludge in bags is transported to the storage yard.
The DRAIMAD® bagging machine is also available with a flocculant preparation station. The dewatered sediment inside the bags is immediately packed and prepared for transport for further storage. Storage of the bags in the open air enables a further increase in dry solids concentration, and thus the reduction of mass, until it reaches a compost consistency. The entire drainage process in the device is controlled automatically. During the operation of the DRAIMAD® bagging machine, the concentration of dry matter in the sludge increases to 15-20%, and after drying for two to three months during outdoor storage, it can even increase to over 50%. In addition to the sludge dewatering basic function of the bagging machine the DRAIMAD® is also used for sand dewatering and as a sewage pretreatment device in some industries.
